A new direction

Reason A company is struggling with high absenteeism. Various measures such as the introduction of a vitality programme, personal interviews and training are having no effect.

Change on the go® in the field

Approach LANZ organises a ‘journey’ with employees who are currently, have been or are struggling with sickness absence. LANZ supports them to define their own context for vitality in a first step and, in a second step, to create it. For this, observations and findings are collected from the participants. The employees then identify promoting and impeding patterns and contribute initial ideas. They present these to management and are examined for desirability, feasibility and cost-effectiveness. For the ideas, which best meet the criteria, employees develop and test prototypes. Critical, large-scale testing supports the further development into services and products, which are widely received by the organisation, and therefore easily incorporated. Management is informed of progress at regular intervals and makes adjustments where necessary. At-risk groups receive preventive training on load and strain capacity.

Result Organisation-wide awareness of vitality, including improvement of the process for receiving and channelling signals of declining vitality, leads to a 60% reduction in absenteeism due to illness. Insight that vitality is also influenced by household circumstances and more direction should be given to the employee.
